I forgot to post this on Friday, but this weekend I have a MAJOR feature by the DailyCandy, they interviewed me a few weeks back about the lightboxes I've been making. I'll be on the main DailyCandy boston page till Monday DailyCandy.com/Boston. It's major because they have hundreds of thousands of Boston subscribers... which has meant an INSANE rush of orders on my site, I had to hire someone to help me now cause I can't do it all!
I was contaced by Touchstone Pictures looking to purchase my stuff for an upcoming movie called 'The Surrogates' with Bruce Willis, so I did that. I'm currently booked at a few galleries .. the next of which is in Halifax, NS beginning Sept 12th. I also have a big advertisement in this months Giant Robot magazine, which I think starts selling tomorrow?
so my secret design/portfolio site is finally up after months and months and months. i'm still trying to hammer out some of the coding issues across browsers, and filter out & in some of the content. czech it out! stopdeadDesign.com
and to make matters better caleb came back from prague, and upon visiting decided to move in with me in ny... which is incredibely unexpected. he's got himself a job already and will be splitting the huge basement with marc - my other roommate.
i, however, still have no work.. and i'm enjoying that. zach galifianakis this weekend with abbeyyy!!
its been postponed a few times over the past 2 weeks, but tomorrow morning i'll be finally moving down to brooklyn. to celebrate here's a video of my favorite band of all time (who pretty much everyone i've ever met has hated) FANTOMAS!
stick with it!! they're so goddamn good
i don't feel like celebrating actually, i'm gonna miss many friends.
other than that i spent the New Years weekend down in NY, much with Olga - but i blew the new years eve plans with her due to alcohol at my NY roommates bar, and decided to just stay there with him. she flipped at the christmas presents.
i'm done working now, trying to be productive before i go down to Brooklyn for good, instead i'm mostly marathoning the sopranos. i think i leave the 22nd. 2006 was my favorite year of all time.
finally started using my pentax again a couple weeks ago, after working on the design i posted in the last entry i decided i need some more backgrounds to play with for future designs so i took some intentionally blurry pics of the leaves outside before they all died and went to heaven. i wish i had thought to do this a couple weeks prior to this idea because of the color selection i would've had, but i'm still happy with these.
slowly building brooklyn into my second home until it becomes my first home. i can't wait to move down there, i gotta slow down and enjoy the rest of my time in MA.
i've been working on bunches of designs lately for a portfolio, as well as taking pictures with my old Pentax pal.
heres a poster i designed for Olga's next show in NY, i think i'd have an amazingly fun time working on an entire cd package for her. i made some similar-ish buttons for her last month but have no pics to share of those.
cabe leaves for real, for good, next week... brooklyn wont come soon enough for me after that.
so i'm moving to nyc. i've been quiet about it to be sure i really had a place lined up and all things were a go. and now they are, so i'm moving to brooklyn in january and cannoooot waiiiiit.
Everything leading up to the decision made it all too easy to go down there, i made up my mind after a few weeks of really thinking about it that if something came along which would allow me to move down there then i'd just take it. Surprisingly the FOLLOWING DAY my friend mark came up from NY to visit and one of the first things he said was 'i'm gonna need a room mate in a few months, are you interested in moving to ny?' ... doesn't come much easier than that. As for work, i'll inform my current job sometime in december and then probably go down there with hopefully around a years worth of rent saved up so i can relax for a little while and just do some freelancing.
this paris hilton album is pretty damn incredible. she's terrible, but they must've let her write her own lyrics or something because in some distant distant way its genius.
i'm leaving work early on tuesday to bus down to NY and surprise Olga for her b-day. She's playing her first full set at this club somewhere in manhattan, the plan is to yell out a song request somewhere in there from the crowd of a song that her and i only know about... i also took the next day off work so i can hopefully see her more than just at the show. Still can't really decide if this a nice, or creepy decision to go down there unannounced.
lets see. Still working on finishing the roll of film with that russian camera, for all i know i've been doubling-tripling exposures and getting my fingers in half the shots so far .. the film advance knob is pretty counter-intuitive.
working working working. early early early. but i'm enjoying it more now that i'm settling in. i just dont know how long i want to have a full time job.
Caleb is suddenly moving to thailand for a year to teach english, starting late in october - i suppose that'll be good for him but its no good for me i'll tell you that much. i guess i'll have a reason to fly to thailand though and be a huge white american celebrity.
2 years ago i shot this video of caleb playing doom 3 for the first time, i finally threw the clips together and put it on youtube. the audio gets messed halfway through but i have no patience for fixing it. anyways i really enjoy watching him, even 2 years later, and even through my obnoxious distracting laughter. the other voice is his younger brother andrew:
this new job is completely kicking my ass, but i'm learning a lot more about screen printing & setup, as well as illustrator which i've fallen in love with.
i also FINALLY purchased one of these:
its a strange russian camera that takes crazy warped wide angle panoramic shots, all on standard 35mm film. though finding a shop that can print these for me has been a bit challenging. seems there may be a place in boston though.
i'm going to NYC tomorrow until late monday night which i'm super excited about, seeing Olga of course and ODELIAAA with no plans in mind. just excitement, really. I'll be taking that camera with me, since i havent had much time to learn it yet, and i'll be spending more money than ever since bell has 'no money at all'... not sure how you can be on tv, magazine covers, and voices in video games and have 'no money at all'. I'm also riding in a luxury bus, which is making up for a good amount of this excitement. its got goddamn WI-FI internet on it, and waitresses.
i'll post some pics in a couple weeks if this camera thing works out. NYC NYC NYC NCYCNCYC NHCY
so Olga came up from nyc to stay with me for a week and do tons of recording recording recording. We got a lot of work done for the EP but now its in total mixing mode which is up to me to not screw up. The master plan, i think, is to make an EP with maybe 5 songs and then from that we'll send out demos with 2 or 3 songs on it to whatever labels she thinks we would appeal to... this system works out i think, because i dont know much about labels and am not great at any sort of P.R. work - so why not have a gorgeous, talented, and charismatic girl out there representing us instead.
Aside from music we had a great time all week, there are not too many people i could be around non-stop for that amount of time without wanting to rip whatever hair i have left on my scalp out, we were both sad to say goodbye but i was able to get down to nyc last weekend again and see her, as well as lots of my family. We went to a drag show one night, featuring my friend brians russian character "Katya", had a bbq with my parents & family on july 4th, and went up to Vermont for a couple days to visit my brother and his girlfriend. I have many many pictures from all this, and they're even online but i'm entirely unmotivated to post them right this second. ah whatever i'll do one..
i will post many more another time.
other than all that she's also on a commercial now for Spike TV's get-the-jet sweepstakes, which i guess runs through september? so all of you can see her over & over again. heres a still from the commercial:
if you'd like to view the whole commercial you can go to the directors site at: Johnpapola.com - go to 'commercials' hers is the first one, 'get-the-jet sweepstakes' .. she, of course, is the stewardess.
so. quickly. chicago was so so soo much fun, i took millions of pictures and will put them online shortly with some sort of explanation as to whats going on.
Olga came up to visit as soon as i returned and is still here recording with me until sunday, fun fun fun visit so far & we're getting a lot of work done for the EP... lots of pics & video from this visit, i'll stick those on here soon as well along with a glimpse of some of the music. how did i end up here again?
So i went down to NY to meet Olga Bell, a little bit scary but it only took about a half hour of adjustment time to feel comfortable. We started recording some sketched ideas just on a piano at this nice big practice room in Manhattan.
I really think this project could end up being something bigger than i originally anticipated, the songs on piano are exceptionally strong already - now i just need to add everything else you need in a song to make it band-ish which is a bit overwhelming. I don't want to screw up this oppurtunity, if i were ever to make a decent impression on the music world this would be it, but recognizing that also puts some pressure on me. what the heck though, i'm wayyyyyy excited and really can't wait to get it moving. while i was down there we decided to make it a full album, and keep it hush hush so i don't know if i'll be posting anything we're working on ... though i guess theres a good chance i'll break down and just put 1 thing up eventually. She's coming to visit me once i get home from chicago at the end of this month and will be staying for a weeeeeeek, i think we'll get a decent amount of junk finished in that time slot.
aaaaand her voice/piano/songwriting skills are astounding, really. i shouldn't be this lucky!
